It's way safer to release PG-13, family friendly stuff. I mean, they wouldn't even release "Midnight Meat Train" theatrically and that was a finished film! I casually breezed past the firs...Interesting list. I casually breezed past the first two items :-) I guess if I had to be nit-picky (and I'm not) I'd only see 7 flicks I'd call horror -- but that would mean the year REALLY sucked for horror. Why do you think this year was so bad for horror flicks? It seems like the audience is hungry for it. What's Hollywood doing wrong?
